“Sphatik” in Sanskrit means transparent. The Sphatik Mala is a sacred garland of beads usually worn by ascetics and also the common man and symbolizes the human to be transparent by nature and give himself to god. It looks much like a rosary. The Sphatik Mala is made of transparent small beads and is worn around the neck. These transparent crystals are usually small in shape and are made out of crystals about 5 to 7 mm in diameter. The number of beads in a Sphatik Mala is generally 108. The beads are strung on a white string with a tassel at the end. There is a guru bead attached to the tassel that separates the first bead from the 108th one.
